Why Meaningful Use Matters

September 19, 2013

There is little doubt that the use of Electronic Health Records (EHR) promote efficiency and effectiveness in the care of patients. Seeing the value of the widespread use of EHR, the Centers for Medicaid & Medicare Services (CMS) established an incentive program in 2009 to reward providers for adopting the advanced technology.

That reward comes in the form of increased payments for covered services to those organizations and/or providers who choose an EHR that has been certified for "Meaningful Use." To earn status as Meaningful Use certified, platforms like the one offered by EPOWERdoc have to meet a rigorous set of standards. And by tying incentives to the selection and implementation of Meaningful Use products, CMS is looking to guarantee that organizations and providers migrating to EHR technology will be served only by the most effective and efficient vendors.

Meaningful use EHR offer these benefits:

  • Complete and accurate information. With electronic health records, providers have the information they need to provide the best possible care. Providers will know more about their patients and their health history before they walk into the examination room.

  • Better access to information. Electronic health records facilitate greater access to the information providers need to diagnose health problems earlier and improve the health outcomes of their patients. Electronic health records also allow information to be shared more easily among doctors' offices, hospitals, and across health systems, leading to better coordination of care.

  • Patient empowerment. Electronic health records will help empower patients to take a more active role in their health and in the health of their families. Patients can receive electronic copies of their medical records and share their health information securely over the Internet with their families.

This is important. And at EPOWERdoc we take the mission of achieving and maintaining Meaningful Use certification seriously. We are singularly focused on developing the most effective and efficient technologies to assist Emergency Departments and critical care providers in better serving those who come to them in need.

Our EMRdoc platform was first certified for Meaningful Use in 2010. Since then we have maintained our standing as a certified platform by submitting to exhaustive reviews of our features and capabilities by independent bodies like the Drummond Group.

We are proud to count ourselves among the group of platforms that have achieved Meaningful Use certification and invite you to contact us to set up a demo of EMRdoc. You can reach a member of our professional staff at by calling 515.965.8040 or by emailing jporter@epowerdoc.com
