EPOWERdoc Granted Utility Patent for EMRDoc Emergency Department Information System
OMAHA, Neb.— EMRDoc, the Emergency Department Information System (EDIS) developed and marketed by EPOWERdoc, Inc., has been granted a US Patent. EMRDoc is a full Electronic Health Record (EHR) and Emergency Department (ED) management platform that has been designed from the ground up by a clinical development team to accommodate the unique workflow of the ED.
EPOWERdoc, headquartered in Omaha, Neb. with offices across the United States, has developed a number of unique documentation and patient management tools in the system that streamline productivity for the provider during the care process. EPOWERdoc’s development team is comprised of ED Physicians and Nurses, allowing them to develop a platform that specifically addressed the workflow issues they had encountered with other EHR systems.
“We approached our development of EMRDoc completely outside the box from the beginning, and centered our focus on the unique workflow of the ED,” says David Ernst, MD, FACEP, President of EPOWERdoc. “The result is an EDIS like no other, and I think the granting of a US Patent is evidence of that.”
“Our development team of ED clinicians created a system that helps, rather than hinders, the clinician’s practice of medicine in the ED,” Dr. Ernst continues. “This is the way it should be. Receiving a US Utility Patent for software in general, especially healthcare related, is a very challenging task and speaks to the unique design and features of the system. We are very proud of our team and the end result.”
Time studies have shown an average of 20% improvement related to provider care times after conversion to EMRDoc. In contrast, the national average is a 30% productivity decrease when converting from paper documentation to an EHR in the ED.
“This is important,” Dr. Ernst says of the numbers. “EMRDoc provides for greater user and patient satisfaction and acceptance. Additionally, it offers a considerable return on investment for the provider group and hospital because they don’t have to increase provider resources to accommodate for the traditional productivity drop experienced with other EHRs.”
